The charm of black and white continues even after advent of colour photography precisely because of its effectiveness in transforming human emotions into shades and contrasts.

In the photo of two boats beached on the seaside, the flying bird breaks the monotony of the clear white sky.
The wet area in the cobbler’s photo presents the contrast with the dry portion of the lane where the black shoe is placed.
A small passenger boat hauling a bigger boat loaded with hay across the Yamuna river reveals the interdependence of rural economy with urban needs even in the national capital. The mirror images of the two boats in the river water add to the total effect.
The silhouettes of the two camels and the approaching bird break the stale white expanse of the sky but the low angle light creates shades on the sand dunes.
Remains of a dried up and dying tree against the setting sun creates an image that is open to interpretation while the rising sun seems to be peeping through the heart of the tree trunk.
