New Delhi: Within ten days of its launch, the PM Vishwakarma Scheme has received more than 1.40 lakh applications, Narayan Rane, Union Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, said here today.
The scheme aims to enhance traditional artisans’ and craftspeople’s production capacity and take their products to domestic and global markets.
Under the scheme, 18 types of artisans and craftsmen, working with hands and tools, are earmarked to be benefited. Skill training will be provided to the beneficiaries and they will receive a daily stipend of 500 rupees during the training. In addition, assistance of 15,000 rupees will be provided to purchase tool kits. Beneficiaries will also be eligible for collateral-free loans up to 3 lakhs. The minimum age of the beneficiary would be 18 years on the date of registration. The registration and benefits under the Scheme are restricted to one member of the family which consists of husband, wife and unmarried children. However, persons in government service and their family members are not eligible under the Scheme.

Hailing the “success” of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, through his post on X (formerly Twitter), Rane wrote that receiving such high numbers of applications within ten days of the launch of the scheme is a testament to the success and the paramount importance of the scheme.
The Union Minister further claimed that the PM Vishwakarma Scheme would prove to be a milestone for the comprehensive development of the socially and economically underprivileged craftsmen and artisans and it will restore their lost identity “which has been long awaited”.
It may be mentioned that the Scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2023, on the occasion of his 73rd birthday.
