Anakapalli (Andhra Pradesh): An accident at a firecracker factory claimed the lives of at least six people and injured scores others, with several in serious condition, at Kailasapatnam village of Kotauratla block of Ankapalli district today. The incident took place around noon when part of the factory structure gave way, reportedly because of the bast in the reactor, causing debris to fall onto the workers below.
Emergency responders acted swiftly, taking the injured individuals to a nearby hospital for urgent care. Reports indicated that a number of those hurt were in critical condition, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences for the tragic loss of life. In a statement from his office, he declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the families of each deceased individual. Additionally, those who were injured will receive Rs. 50,000 to help cover their medical costs.
“The local administration is providing necessary support to those affected,” the PM’s office stated on X. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in this mishap. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured,” he said.
Authorities have initiated inquiries to determine the reasons behind the reactor explosion and the factory’s collapse, concentrating on compliance with regulations and safety measures. Early findings suggest that the facility might have failed to meet required safety standards, highlighting potential lapses in industrial oversight. Andhra Pradesh’s Home Minister instructed the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police to visit the location and guarantee that the injured workers obtain the highest standard of medical treatment.
Local leaders urged prompt changes to safety protocols to avert similar occurrences in the future, stressing the necessity of strict compliance with regulations. This unfortunate incident has deeply affected the Anakapalli community, underscoring the urgent need for improved safety standards in the workplace.
