MUNGHYR*
Munghyr, a town frozen in antiquity
Once you were my world
I spent my teen years in your cozy company
Mighty river Ganges nurtured me
My town school hummed with activities
Trees were laden with fruits
Ghosts of haunted house atop Pirpahar scared me
River Ganga disappeared in a bend at the Kastaharini Ghat
Vapours of Sitakund hot spring warmed by soul
Jamalpur loco shed had the aura of British colonial era
We knew everyone in my little town by the river side
In search of livelihood, I had to leave you
I longed to return
Fifty years later I returned to your lap
Nothing has changed in this quaint little town by the river
I backtraced my childhood memories
To redeem my lost life
You smiled and took me in your lap
And returned me to myself
Keep me in your lap forever
Allow me to flow with you
A timeless , ageless journey …
*(Munghyr is an ancient town in Bihar in India)
SOME DAYS
Some days
A river wakes up
Inside my body breaking its banks
Everything gets swept away
Some days
Waves and waves of emotions carry my love for you
Love inundates all emotions
Some days
I am immersed in your beauty
I am lost in the melodies of your voice
Some days
River within you too wakes up with its chants
Memories of our togetherness is
Carried by the rivers within us …
WHAT IS YOUR AGE
Some feel young at 90
Some feel tired of life at 20
Many ask me
What is your age
I tell them
When I play with the infants
I am an infant
When I talk to school kids
I am a school kid
When I watch young boys and girls
I am romantic like them
When I visit my parents
I behave like a responsible son
What does the age have to do with me ?
Isn’t age nothing but a number ?
What is the age of the sun
What is age of moon
Time changes everything
I too change with time
Life is a journey I am passing through
How does my age matter ?
I don’t question my age
I question how I lived …
I AM THE SONG*
I am the song
You are the tune
I am the body
You are the soul
I am the flower
You are the fragrance
I am the food
You are the flavor
I am the breadth
You are the oxygen
I am the tree
You are my root …
*(This verse is called Saptapadi , which means seven steps we take to merge with the divinity in us .
This a marriage vow Hindus take during their marriage. This has origin in our scripture RIG VEDA )
NOSTALGIA*
We played
We joked
We quarreled
We studied
Our campus became our world
We bonded and merged as a family
Two years passed in a jiffy
Our degree was the wings given to us
To fly in the sky of the corporate world
We carried a memorable piece of our campus life
We parted company to chart our future
Life became a series of class rooms
We all scaled new heights as we soared in the blue sky
We took different paths
We led separate lives
Yet
Memories of our campus life never faded
Hoped against hope to redeem that life
At least once in our lifetime
Our reunion in 2017 after 44 years of parting
Transported us back to 1971-73
Everything about each of us have changed
Yet
Our feeling for each others and friendship
Remained unchanged
We remain forever bonded
Having begun our journey in the same boat – XLRI
Let this energy of togetherness
Give us fresh lease of life
To navigate the last leg of our journey ahead …
*(I met my MBA batch mates from XLRI , Jamshedpur after 44 years for our reunion)

Nice poem by sujit Mukherji
Such freshness, such simplicity in the composition…it touches a chord within us…. beautiful poetry
One of the nonpareil autobiographies of one’s life directy inked from the soul. It won’t be an exaggeration if I compare it with Wordsworth’s ‘Ode to Immortality’.
No better attribute and no better words can be said for the town Munghyr, that I have not seen but would like to see one day. The Author Suji Mukherjee has immortalized the town. 👏👏👏
Very nice.Beingbfrom.a town from Bihar -Muzaffarpur I could connect with the emotion easily.
I carried Muzaffarpur wherever I went and proudly announce my Muzaffarpur/Bihar connection.
