New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) reported that its Aadhaar Face Authentication solution has surpassed 130.5 crore transactions. Of these, over 78% were recorded in the fiscal year 2024-25. The system, which uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning, was introduced in October 2022 and has gained significant traction across various sectors.
In the fiscal year 2024-25 alone, the Aadhaar Face Authentication system processed more than 102 crore transactions. Over the past three months (January- March 2025), nearly 39.5 crore transactions were recorded, with 15.25 crore transactions occurring in March, reflecting a 21.6% increase compared to February 2025.
Applications in Government and Private Sectors
Aadhaar Face Authentication is being used by 102 entities in both government and private sectors. It is currently employed in several government schemes, including PM Awas (Urban), PM E-Drive, PM-JAY, PM Ujjwala, PM Kisan, and PM Internship, for the smooth delivery of benefits to beneficiaries. The system also serves as an alternative for individuals who face challenges with fingerprint-based authentication, such as senior citizens or those with health-related issues affecting their fingerprints.
Security Features and Platform Support
The Aadhaar Face Authentication system operates on both Android and iOS platforms. It offers protection against video replay attacks and static photo authentication attempts, providing secure and reliable user verification. The authentication process is contactless and available for use at any time and place, allowing users to verify their identity using only their face.
This authentication modality enables users to verify their identity with just a face scan, ensuring convenience while upholding stringent security standards, the Ministry of Electronics & IT stated today.
