Manila: The death toll from Typhoon Odette in the Philippines climbed to 375, with more than 50 others still missing on December 20, 2021. Military airplanes and naval vessels were deployed today to carry aid to the devastated areas. This was the strongest of the 15 storms that hit the archipelago in 2021.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was among the world leaders to expressed his condolences to President of Philippines Rodrigo Duterte in connection with the tragic aftermath of the typhoon that struck the central regions of the country.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said Sunday that he would look for another P2 billion to augment his P2-billion initial commitment to aid the recovery of provinces devastated by Typhoon Odette. He toured Bohol province to assess the typhoon’s impact and met with local officials to know their immediate needs. He also led the distribution of assistance to the typhoon survivors.
World Food Programme, through the support of USAID Philippines, has sent assistance to the Philippine Government’s Department of Social Welfare and Development and transported 10,000 family food packs through 6 (six) 10-wheeler trucks bound for Butuan City. The government food packs will be distributed to the thousands of families who have been affected by Typhoon OdettePH (International name: Rai).
WFP has also sent over two of its Mobile Storage Units to Surigao City to be used in setting up a logistics base for the relief operations.
