Antananarivo: Madagascar has over 17,500 people of Indian origin, mostly from Gujarat, living and working in the Indian Ocean Island nation.
India sees Madagascar not only as an important bilateral partner, but also a vital pole in the collaborative maritime vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for all in the Region).

President Ram Nath Kovind had visited Madagascar in 2018 under collaborative vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
Ambassador Abhay Kumar called on Christian Ntsay, Prime Minister of Madagascar today to review the progress made in bilateral ties between India and Madagascar. They noted that India and Madagascar bilateral ties are going from strength to strength since the visit.
The Indian Embassy informed about the number of recent MoUs finalised between the two countries in the sector of health, education, culture, training of Human Resources, environmental protection, custom matters, information exchange. According the the Indian Embassy, they are likely to be signed soon.

It may be mentioned that an India-Madagascar Chamber of Commerce was launched last month in Antananarivo to further strengthen the trade ties between the two countries. Besides, a Green Triangle named after Mahatma Gandhi was also inaugurated in Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo in March this year.
