New Delhi: After Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan’s resignation today from the Governorship, the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, today appointed CP Radhakrishnan, Governor of Jharkhand, to discharge the functions of Andhra Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in addition to his own duties, until regular arrangements are made.
Radhakrishnan’s appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his office, a press communique from the President’s secretariat stated.
Earlier the President accepted the resignation of Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry amid speculations that she may contest the Lok Sabha elections. She was made the Governor of Telangana in September 2019 and was later given the additional charge as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in 2021.
Daughter of former Congress leader Kumari Ananthan, 62-year-old Soundararajan, however, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 1990s. Her brother H. Vasantha Kumar is a Congress legislator from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
Reports suggest that Soundarajan resigned on the instructions of the BJP central leadership and she may contest as a BJP candidate from Chennai South or Tirunelveli in Tamilnadu.
