New Delhi: The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some parts of south Bay of Bengal, Nicobar islands and Andaman Sea, the National Weather Forecasting Centre of the India Meteorological Department stated here on Sunday. It added that conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of South Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Sea & Andaman Islands and some parts of east-central Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours. Light to moderate rainfall at most places are very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 4-5 days.
Major features associated with advance of southwest monsoon

- Rainfall occurred at most places over Nicobar Islands during last 24 hours.
- Southwesterly wind has strengthened in the lower levels (upto 25 knots) and deepened(upto 6 km) over the southern Latitudes covering south Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islandsand southern parts of south Bay of Bengal.
- There is persistent cloudiness from May 15 onwards over south Andaman Sea, adjoining south Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands. The Satellite (INSAT-3D) derived Outgoing Long wave Radiation over the region is less than 200 W/m2.[the_ad_placement id=”sidebar-feed”]
