New Delhi: Abdul Rashid Kalas, a head constable of Jammu and Kashmir police, was posthumously conferred the Kirti Chakra for valour, courageous and sacrifice for the nation for the year 2021.
On February 18, 2019 SSP Pulwama had received credible input about meeting a group of Jaish-e-Mohammed (a Pakistan-based Deobandi Jihadist Mujahideen group active in Kashmir) terrorists at village pinglena to plan a fidayeen attack.
The input was shared with Pulwama police, 55 RR, and 182/183 Bn CRPF. The operation was planned and to make it successful to join teams of police and security forces were constituted to zero in the target. The area was sealed off and all the possible escaping routes were plugged off properly. As the party approached the target house the terrorists fired upon them indiscriminately.
However, to avoid civilian casualties the operational commander directed for the safe evacuation of civilians trapped in the cordoned area including the target house. While the evacuation was taking place the rescue parties came under a heavy volley of fire irrespective of odds the team continued the evacuation and at the same time kept on retaliating.
However, during fierce firefights, SI Azad Ahmed HC Abdul Rashid Kalas and a few army personnel received serious bullet wounds but they kept on retaliating and evacuating civilians without caring for their lives thereafter the team engaged in the operation intensified the retaliation from the front and gunned down the dreaded terrorists in due course. During the operation, head constable Kalas displayed valour and exemplary raw courage in engaging and eliminating hard-core terrorists and made supreme sacrifice for the nation.
