Patna: Representatives from 28 countries today witnessed the Bihar Governor, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, inaugurating the thematic event of the engagement group of L20 at Gyan Bhawan here today.
Labour 20 or L20 is one of the engagement groups under G20, comprising trade union representatives of G20 countries who provide analysis and policy recommendations aimed at addressing labour-related issues. Universal Social Security and its related draft were discussed during the technical session here today.
Welcoming the local and foreign delegates Arlekar said that he was proud to see representatives of 28 countries of the world present here who represented 75 per cent of the population. He stressed the need of giving importance to human values. “If we are filled with human values, not only the labour world but the entire social, economic and political life will be strengthened,” he said.
The Governor highlighted Bihar’s thousands of years old glorious history and said this is the land of knowledge. “Thousands of years ago people from every corner of the world used to come to acquire knowledge in the Nalanda University located here,” he said and also recalled that Vaishali is the birthplace of democracy.
Hiranmay Pandaya, Chair of the L20 meet, said that this is not only a proud occasion for Bihar but also for the rest of the country and representatives of the Labour department. He said that L20 will not only represent the voice of G 20 nations but also represent the voice of those nations whose representatives are not present.
Addressing the technical session of the conference, Aarti Ahuja, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, discussed various measures taken by the government for social security in the country.
