India now the second most Corona-infected country after the USA
Geneva: In the last 24 hours, India registers the highest COVID-19 related deaths among all other countries. In the latest World Health Organisation report of Monday, it reported 1065 of the total 5,446 global deaths in the last 24 hours. (The latest Indian government figure released today shows a marginal decline in the death figures with 1016 deaths in 24 hours since then — the difference is because of the different time zones). The USA, , which at 6144138 has the highest number of Corona patients in the world, saw 976 deaths during this period and was second in the list.
This is the second day in succession that the country leads the globe in terms of Corona related deaths as on Sunday too, with 1089 deaths, it was marginally ahead of USA’s 1073 Corona related deaths.

On Monday, India with 4204613 cases already surpassed Brazil (4092832 cases) as the country with second highest COVID-19 cases in the world and only the USA with 6144138 corona patients is ahead of India.
In terms of newly reported cases in the last 24 hours, India is again miles ahead of all other countries with 90802 new patients added to the list. It is followed respectively by Brazil with 51,194 new cases and the USA with 49131 fresh cases of Corona. Globally there are 26,763,217 Corona victims till the last World Health Figures came in today.
Incidentally, while both in USA as well as Brazil the transmission is classified as community transmission, in India it is still clusters of cases. While the USA has thus far reported 186,663 deaths, and leading the list, India is again just third in the list after Brazil. While total lives lost due to Corona stands at 125521, in India the death toll is 70626.
Incidentally in Russia, which is fourth in the overall table with 1025505 Corona patients, the number of new cases were remarkably much lesser at 5,195. The number of deaths in Russia stands at 17820, and the number of deaths registered in the last 24 hours there stood at just 61.
In Spain, which had initially seen the worst of COVID-19 and thus far had 498989 covid cases, there were zero fresh cases and no deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. The country, like India, has clusters of cases.
The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, though claimed on Monday that India’s total recovered cases were on a “continuous upward trajectory”, and had crossed 32.5 lakh today, with 69,564 patients being discharged in the last 24 hours. This, it claimed, resulted in the Recovery Rate touching 77.31%. It further claimed that even the Case Fatality Rate had declined and stood at a “new low” of 1.70% today.
The Indian health ministry further claimed that five states were contributing 60% of total cases with Maharashtra at the top with 21.6%, followed by Andhra Pradesh (11.8%), Tamil Nadu (11.0%), Karnataka (9.5%) and Uttar Pradesh at 6.3%.
It added that Maharashtra also contributed 26.76% of the active cases in the country, followed by Andhra Pradesh (11.30%), Karnataka (11.25%),Uttar Pradesh (6.98%) and Tamil Nadu (5.83%). These 5 States presently contribute 62% of total active cases.
