Fafda
The crispy golden strip fafda is a popular Gujarati snack made with besan. It is crispy, savoury and perfect for tea-time snacks served with chutney and jalebi.
Ingredients
(Makes about 20 medium-sized Fafda)
Besan: 2 cup
Baking soda: ¼ tsp
Black pepper crushed: ¼ tsp
Ajwain: ¼ tsp
Turmeric powder: ¼ tsp
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, add besan, baking soda, black pepper, ajwain, turmeric powder and salt.
Step 2
Add a tsp of oil and mix the dry ingredients well. Gradually add water to form a stiff dough. It should not be too soft as we need firm for shaping fafda.
Step 3
Take a small portion of the dough. Roll it between your palms to make it smooth, and then place it on a flat surface.
Step 4
Press the dough and stretch it out using the palm of your hand, making it long and thin. Continue making fafda from the remaining dough.
Step 5
Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Gently slide the shaped fafda into the oil. Fry them until they turn golden and crispy, flipping occasionally to cook both sides evenly.
Step 6
Serve the crispy fafda with green chutney and hot jalebi for a sweet and savoury combination.
