Fafda
Fafda is a crispy golden savoury strip and a trendy Gujarati street food. Prepared with besan or gram flour, fafda is served with fried green chilli and jalebi.
Ingredients
(Serving for 4 persons)
Besan: 1 cup
Turmeric powder: ¼ tsp
Black pepper: ½ tsp
Ajwain: ½ tsp
Hing: a pinch
Black pepper: ½ tsp
Baking soda: a pinch
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Step 1
Add besan, ajwain, pepper, turmeric powder, baking soda and salt in a mixing bowl.
Step 2
Add 2 tsp of oil to the mixture and mix well. Gradually add water and knead into a firm dough. The dough should be smooth but firm enough to hold its shape.
Step 3
Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. On a clean surface, flatten the dough balls using the palm. Roll the dough into a long strip using the base of your palm by applying pressure to make them. Ensure the strips are even and not too thick for a crispy texture.
Step 4
Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Once medium hot carefully drop the fafda and fry until golden and crispy.
Step 5
Once done, remove and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve the fafda with fried green chilli and jalebi.
