Dabeli
Dabeli is a street food that originated from the Kutch region of Gujarat. It is a delightful combination of sweet, tangy and spicy flavours.
Ingredients
(Serving for 2 to 3 persons)
Potatoes: 4 medium-sized, boiled and mashed
Onion: 1 small finely chopped
Mustard seeds: 1 tsp
Cumin seed: ½ tsp
Hing: ¼ tsp
Dabeli masala: 2 tsp
Oil: 1 tsp
Tamarind date chutney: 2 tsp
Salt to taste
For Assembling
Pav: 6
Butter: 2 tsp
Roasted and crushed peanut: 2 tsp
Pomegranate seeds: 2 tsp
Sev: 4 tsp
Chopped coriander leaves for garnishing
Step 1
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. To this add mustard and cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add hing and onion and saute until onion turns translucent.
Step 2
To this add the mashed potato and dabeli masala along with salt and saute them all together for about a couple of minutes. Once done switch off the flame and let it cool down.
Step 3
Slit the pav horizontally and butter both sides. In a griddle pan toast them from both sides.
Step 4
Stuff each pav with a generous portion of the prepared potato mixture. Garnish the stuffed pav with pomegranate, crushed peanut, Sev and chopped coriander leaves.
Step 5
Serve hot with extra masala peanut and tamarind chutney on the side
