Patna: Every Saturday and Sunday the famous Gandhi Ghat also known as NIT Ghat at Patna is now witness to the evening Ganga Aarti conducted by the State Tourism Department.
Thousands of people from all over the state come to watch the Aarti at this Ghat.
NIT Ghat as the name suggests is located behind the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Engineering College and is considered to be the best maintained Ghat with facilities in Patna.
On normal days people come here to enjoy boat rides and river cruises operated by the government and private operators.
NIT Ghat also has a lot of food stalls which cater to visitors. One can also book a boat to watch the evening Aarti from Ganga side which is a mesmerising view.
The infrastructure is being upgraded and a private agency has plans of setting up a small resort with a huge idol of Gangaji considered to be a Hindu goddess on the island in front of the Ghat
The riverfront in Patna stretches for 11 miles and the first phase of the JP Ganga Marine Drive, which is the dream project of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is going to be inaugurated in June 2022. The 4 lane road running both on the ground and on elevated roads is expected to ease the traffic load on the Ashok Raj Path which connects Patna to Digha and Patna City and runs parallel to the river Ganga.
