Calicut: Five cyclists have begun a 3700 km journey from Calicut in Kerala to Qadian in Punjab, cycling to stop a feared World War 3. The journey for peace, fueled by hope, is a part of the global “Ride for Peace” initiative by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.
The cyclists, embarking on the cycle tour from Kerala to Qadian, which is the birthplace and national headquarters of the Community, aim to raise awareness and promote the “urgent need” for peace in a world increasingly pacing towards unrest and conflict.
The riders will campaign under the hashtag #StopWorldWar3, urging people across the country to join the call for peace and justice.
“This initiative draws inspiration from the Worldwide Head and Khalifa (Caliph) of the Community, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad (aba), who has been a strong advocate for peace on a global scale, tirelessly working for this cause for the last two decades,” said Shaikh Fatehuddin, vice president of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, New Delhi. He added, “His Holiness has consistently called upon world leaders to prioritise peace over conflict, addressing national parliaments and sending letters to global leaders, urging them to use their influence to foster peace rather than perpetuate war”.
The tour commenced with a flag-off event in Calicut on September 6, 2024. As the riders journey through various states and major cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai and Delhi, they will engage in public awareness campaigns focused on preventing the escalation of global conflicts and promoting sustainable practices, particularly the use of bicycles and planting trees.
“Our Khalifa has been warning the world about the dangers of another world war, and now more than ever, his message resonates as global tensions rise. His Holiness also reminds us of our duty to care for the environment, promoting the use of bicycles not only for health but also as a way to reduce our impact on the planet. We are also instructed to collaborate with other cycling clubs and environmental organisations to further this noble cause,” said Mishal Ahamad, the coordinator of the tour.
