Srinagar: With the COVID-19 cases in Kashmir valley showing a decline over the last two months like in other parts of the country, thousands came out to offer Eid namaz today at various Eidgahs, Mosques, and shrines here after a two-year-long hiatus caused by the pandemic.
The largest Eid prayer gathering was held in the Hazratbal shrine located on the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar.
The day though began with a heavy downpour but that could not dampen the fervour. The Sun finally came out in the afternoon. People greeted each other and there was no report of any untoward incident from any part of the Kashmir Valley. After a long period, the shoppers were visible in good numbers.
Across the length and breadth of Kashmir, thousands of customers were seen at bakery shops, mutton outlets, and readymade garments shopping for the festival.
“After many years especially in the backdrop of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, we are celebrating the Eid al Fitr with great zeal and zest. The business was also good this Eid as almost all the sectors were able to earn a good amount by attracting an impressive number of customers. The mood on Eid is once again of renewed hope and prosperity in Kashmir. We pray for communal harmony in the entire world,” Ajaz Ahmad War, an eminent Social activist told Global Bihari.
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, in his message said that the festival of Eid highlights the joy of sharing.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the period of fasting and prayer during the holy month of Ramzan and inspires all to work towards building a compassionate, harmonious, peaceful and prosperous society,
Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu wished the residents of Srinagar joy, and happiness and hoped that Eid al Fitr would be a harbinger of prosperous times ahead and herald a new chapter of prosperity and peace in Kashmir.
