Washington: In his closing lap in the presidential race, Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump plunged to another low when he spewed crude and vulgar remarks that included shocking remarks about a famous golfer’s penis size and a coarse insult about Vice President Kamala Harris.
After making a dramatic entry at a rally in Pennsylvania, Trump veered into a rambling 15-minute anecdote about the late Arnold Palmer, the golfing legend who grew up in western Pennsylvania after whom the local airport was named. His comments included Palmer’s immense wealth and several offhand remarks about the late legend’s naked body.
“Arnold Palmer was all man, and I say that in all due respect to women, I love women. … This man was strong and tough, and I refused to say it, but when he took showers with the other pros they came out of there, they said ‘Oh, my God. That’s unbelievable,’” Trump said.
His monologue culminated in lewd remarks about the size of Palmer’s penis. Moments later, he went on to use a four-letter word to describe his opponent Harris.
“Such a horrible four years,” Trump said, referring to the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris administration. “We had a horrible — think of the — everything they touch turns to —.”
Many in his audience eagerly filled in the blank, shouting, “Shit!” And Trump responded: “We can’t stand you, you’re a shit vice president.”
Said New York Times: As he makes his third run for the White House and has become visibly angrier since Harris joined the race, there has been a notable uptick in such behaviour, especially in the campaign’s final weeks and days.
Many of those who attend his rallies reflect his attitude in their apparel, wearing shirts, baseball caps and other clothing with vulgar expressions, many of which are aimed at his opponent Harris.
In her reaction, Harris said “The American people deserve so much better. The president of the US must set a standard. Not only for our nation but understanding the standard that we as a nation must set for the world.”
Meanwhile, Trump thrust McDonald’s, one of the most iconic American companies, into the political arena.
The former president stopped by one of the fast-food chain’s Pennsylvania franchises and swapped his suit jacket for an apron to work as a fry attendant. He later handed customers food through the drive-thru window at the restaurant — which was closed for the event — telling them he had made it himself and that it was all on him.
The show was a dig at Harris who had revealed earlier in her biographical detail that she had worked at McDonald’s making fries and as a cashier during her college days.
