Karwar: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) today successfully rescued an Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Rosary, in the Arabian Sea off this port town in Karnataka on the west coast of peninsular India.
The fishing boat had encountered engine failure approximately 215 nautical miles from Karwar.
ICG Ship Savitribai Phule, which was on surveillance duty, swiftly responded to a distress call from IFB Rosary on April 13, 2024, and, despite challenging conditions, established communication with the stranded boat approximately at around 4 p.m. on April 14 at a range of 203 nautical miles from the coast.
Upon its arrival, the boarding team of the ICG ship Savitribai Phule comprising a technical crew made efforts to fix the seized engine. However, all efforts to rectify the engines proved futile. Consequently, with no other viable options available, it was decided to tow the boat safely towards Karwar., before the boat was rendered immobile.
The fishing boat was then, amidst adverse sea conditions, towed towards Karwar with the help of the Coast Guard District Headquarters (Karnataka), in collaboration with the Fisheries Department, Karwar and Thengaipattanam.
IFB Rosary was thereafter handed over to IFB Shree Laxmi Narayan at 4.45 a.m. today, which safely escorted it to the Karwar port, Karwar and Thengaipattanam the Defence Ministry stated.
