New Delhi: Editors Guild of India’s zoom webinar on “Reporting from Red Zones” was subjected to relentless disruption by cyber attackers, who , the EGI claimed, clearly did not want the speakers’ voices to be heard. Multiple encroachers posted obscene messages and videos. Webinar was called off within 10 minutes on Friday, February 12, 2021.
The EGI in a series of tweets stated that within 5 minutes of zoom meeting, spammers started posting frivolous song videos to begin with, and followed up with pornographic content. Multiple spammers joined the meeting in order to disrupt the conversation.
Speakers included Malini Subramaniam, PV Kondal Rao, Milind Umare, Tameshwar Sinha, Faisal Anurag, Purnima Tripathi. Topic of discussion was reporting experiences from Naxal areas.
Subsequently in a press release (see above), the EGI stated that it was shocked and disturbed by this unprecedented attack and saw this as a “blatant attack on freedom of speech”. It demanded that the Cyber Crime Cell investigates this attack and book the guilty.
