Total cases with UK strain of COVID19 rise to 71
New Delhi: The total number of cases infected with the new strain of the novel Coronavirus first reported in the United Kingdom today rose to 71, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated today. However, there was a steady decline in the number of daily deaths recorded with less than 300 new deaths recorded in the country from the last 12 days.
In the meantime, the Union Government today rushed a high level central team headed by Dr S K Singh, Director, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to Kerala following spurt in COVID19 cases in the state. The team will reach the State day after tomorrow. It will review the public health interventions in management of COVID- 19 by the Kerala Government and support the state health authorities in these measures.

Kerala has been reporting very high daily new COVID cases since the past many days. Total of 35,038 new cases were logged during the last seven days. Around 5,000 new cases are added daily to the State COVID19 tally.

As an ongoing effort to strengthen efforts of various state governments and union terrotories (UTs) for COVID management, the Central Government has been deputing Central teams from time to time to visit various States/UTs. These teams interact with the State/UT authorities and get a first hand understanding of the challenges and issues being faced by them so as to strengthen their ongoing activities and remove bottlenecks, if any.
Meanwhile, 73.48% of the 264 case fatalities that reported in the past 24 hours were from ten states/UTs. While 24.24% of new fatalities reported are from Maharashtra which reported 64 deaths, Chhattisgarh also saw a fatality count of 25 while Kerala reported 24 new deaths.
Meanwhile, as a simulation of actual execution, another round of dry run/mock drill in all 700+ districts of all States/UTs (except UP and Haryana who have already conducted/ will be conducting the dry run in all districts on January 5 and January 7 respectively) will be held on January 8, 2021 to ensure efficient planning and management for vaccine delivery in each district of all States/UTs. Each district will identify three types of session sites, similar to the previous dry run including a public health facility (District Hospital/Medical College), private health facility and rural or urban outreach sites. In all Around 1.7 lakh vaccinators and 3 lakh vaccination team members have been trained on the process to be followed at the vaccination sites, the MoHFW informed.
