Hyderabad: The Supreme Court stayed Andhra Pradesh High Court orders in Vijayawada’s Swarna Palace Covid care centre’s fire accident case, on Monday. It gave nod to the government to investigate the case.
The apex court further ruled that the police should not arrest Dr Pothineni Ramesh Chowdary, the CEO of the hospital and said the investigation can continue and Dr. Ramesh could be tried without being taken into custody. “At the same time, Ramesh also should cooperate with the police in the investigation process,” the court added.

On August 9, a huge fire broke out at the Swarna Palace in Vijayawada Covid Center run by Ramesh Hospitals where as many as 10 covid patients had died and 20 others got injuries. The hotel had been taken for lease and was converted into a Covid19 Care Centre for treating coronavirus patients.
The hearing on a petition filed in the High Court alleging that private hospitals are charging exorbitant fees for Covid treatment has been adjourned to next week after the government asked for time to file the counter.
