Operators of ground-based and specialist airborne weapon systems to be unified under one umbrella in IAF
New Delhi: Government has approved the creation of a new branch, called the Weapon Systems (WS) branch, in the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The creation of the WS branch would entail the unification of all weapon system operators under one entity dedicated to the operational employment of all ground-based and specialist airborne weapon systems. The branch would encompass operators in four specialised streams of Surface-to-Surface missiles, Surface-to-Air missiles, Remotely Piloted Aircraft and Weapon System Operators in twin/multi-crew aircraft.
‘The branch will contribute immensely by enhancing the warfighting capability of the Indian Air Force,” the ministry of Defence stated here today.
Meanwhile, today on the occasion of Indian Air Force Day, President Droupadi Murmu On Air Force Day, witnessed an impressive air show from the scenic Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh. She tweeted her greetings to air warriors and veterans of the Indian Air Force and stated that “the nation is proud of IAF for bravely guarding our skies and rendering help during calamities”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the members of Indian Air Force and their families on the occasion of Air Force Day. He also tweeted the following video footage with his commentary.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in his message said that the IAF is known for its valour, excellence, performance and professionalism and India is proud of its men and women in blue. “Wishing them blue skies and happy landings,” he tweeted.
