Mumbai: Soon after India’s legendary cricketer MS Dhoni announced his decision to hang his boots from all formats of the game, it struck a melancholy chord both with his close family members and also fans who had enjoyed watching Sushant’s act in “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story.” In fact, it strikes a chord with every cricket lover who has watched the actor play Dhoni in the latter’s biopic. A video was released by his sister Shweta showcasing all the siblings celebrating the release of the biopic in 2016.

Tragedy apart, there is a mystery surrounding Sushant’s death a good two months and odd after his reported suicide death in his Bandra flat on June 14. The claim that was made on the evening of June 14 was that the forensic department had already swung into action to take stock of all available clues and evidence. Subsequently, the Mumbai Police announced to the press that it was a suicide death case. However, this did not resolve the mystery. Not only his family members but also his fans and other members of the public were keen to know what caused such a cheerful and successful person to commit suicide? The cheerful adjective was attributed to him by his ex-girlfriend Ankita Lokhande while speaking to the media. Ankita had broken up with Sushant post a six-year long relationship that commenced with their acting together in the tele-serial Pavitra Rishta. The break up happened in 2016.

It may be recalled that the first name that popped up in the media was Ankita’s. Then began talk about Disha Salian his ex-manager who had reportedly committed suicide on Jun 8 by jumping off the 14th storey of her building. Later, tumbled out the name of Rhea Chakraborty who had also gained an ex-girlfriend tag post the live-in couple’s big fight that took place on June 8, the same day Disha committed suicide.
The mystery deepens as one goes through the earlier years Ankita and Sushant had spent at their Lokhandwala flat, had at one stage given a media interview to the effect that they will be tying the knot soon. This happened prior to the rumours of the couple breaking up their six-year long relationship being rubbished by Ankita. At that stage, Sushant had informed that he needed one more year to discipline his professional routine before he ties the knot. However, eventually the break-up occurred and reports in the media hinted that while Ankita was keen on marrying and settling down, Sushant was in favour of giving it more time.
There was also media speculation at the time of the reported break-up that the couple could be indulging in a publicity stunt to push their names in the market for more demand. It was learnt from a strategic planner who was close to film personalities that such stories and rumours about affairs and break-ups appear in the media when the star or starlet plans to push their market value in the industry.
However, the shock that was generated by the announcement of Sushant’s suicide death overshadowed all the earlier media stories announcing the break-up. One other reason being Sushant had gone through a second break-up with his live-in partner Rhea Chakraborty on June 8 after spending two years with her in the same flat.
As of now there are two theories doing the round. The Mumbai police is working on the theory of his being gaslighted by a rival camp in the film industry. Whereas the family members are harping on it being a case of abetment to suicide. The only agency that has gained grounds so far is the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which claimed that it has proof of indirect transfer of money from Sushant’s account to Rhea’s.

While the Central agencies are probing the financial angle, it should be noted that the emotional angle is also equally important. A person who has gone through two break-ups over the years and is disturbed over the suicide death of his ex-manager Disha could well become an emotional wreck however, strong, cheerful and positive his outward demeanour might be.
The emotional angle needs strong probing as it was claimed by Sushant’s sister that he did not respond to her messages on the eve prior to June 14. In her media disclosure she also said that she contacted Sushant’s flatmate who informed her that he has gone to sleep. Stressing on the emotional angle becomes even more necessary as members of Sushant’s family including his sisters have alleged that Rhea was controlling Sushant emotionally and all decisions be it financial or concerning his privy life were handled by Rhea. It would be relevant to point out that as a person who was not too eager to tie the knot and settle down, it’s unlikely that this kind of emotional harassment would have space in his private life. Secondly, the most crucial part of the investigation that is yet to come into the public domain is about what caused the big fight between the two. This again can throw light into what the actor was going through post his second break-up.
