New Delhi: The Vice President, M. Venkaiah Naidu, in his capacity as the Chancellor of the University of Delhi, on Friday advised the University to review the decision relating to quota for extra-curricular activities and continue the present quota procedure by earmarking seats for the talented artists.
The Vice President made this suggestion after receiving numerous requests on this issue from Members of Parliament and prominent artists.

Naidu made these remarks in a meeting with the Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean Colleges, Delhi University who had called on the Vice President to brief him about various issues including the issue of Extra Curricular Activities (ECA) quota for admission to first year college. The Vice President was earlier also briefed on this issue by Secretary, Ministry of Human Resource Development.
It may be mentioned that last month the University’s standing committee on admissions had decided to scrap ECA quota in view of the pandemic situation. This had created a row as it affected students who had been eying this quota and were preparing in arts, sports, debating and quiz in schools. Even some well known artists including Geeta Chandran and Sonal Mansingh had criticised the move and the artist community had also written a letter to the President and Vice President to intervene in the matter and ask the University to reverse its decision on ECA quota.
During the Friday meeting, Naidu also suggested to the University to take prompt action on finalizing the examination calendar as well as on filling up vacant positions in the University.
