Mumbai: At least 19 people died and many others were injured in a building collapse at Naik Nagar in the city’s eastern suburb of Kurla around midnight on June 27-28. Several people got trapped in the debris of the ground-plus-three-storey building, a Fire Brigade official said today.
By afternoon, the rescuers had recovered 21 persons trapped under debris, including four dead and another 17 injured (all adult males). The injured were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar and LTMG Hospital in Sion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. He further announced that the injured would be given Rs. 50,000.
