Bihar Assembly Elections 2020
Patna: With voting over, the Rashtriya Janata Dal led Grand Alliance sounds optimistic of capitalising on the “strong” anti-incumbency factor against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Bihar. The state registered 57.92% voters’ turnout in the third and final phase of voting for 78 Assembly seats in 15 districts on November 7. The first and second phase of polling had respectively seen 55.68 per cent and 55.70 per cent turnout. Counting of votes will start on November 10.
Deputy Election Commissioner in-charge Chandra Bhushan Kumar said that there were 156 cases of violation of COVID rules. There was also media reports of a firing incident at a polling booth in Sarsi seat in the Purnia district in which one person was reportedly killed. However, there was no immediate official statement on the matter. In Jokikhat Assembly segment, the Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Sarfaraz Alam was booked for violating model code of conduct, after he was spotted at a polling station wearing a badge denoting lantern- the RJD’s poll symbol.
The state also saw 56.02% turnout at the Valmikinagar Parliamentary bye-election in the state. In Manipur assembly bypolls today, the turnout was 91.54% for 4 Assembly seats which were lying vacant after Congress MLAs representing these constituencies had resigned from the state Assembly as well as the Congress party to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.
