Unsung Warriors Of Covid War Part 1
Nowadays entire world is fighting war against Covid 19. There are many warriors on the forefront of the battle ground, like doctors, police officers, scientists, etc. But there are many unsung warriors who are helping the world fight against Covid 19 silently, selflessly and effectively. One of them is Rashmi Sinha, who hails from Bihar and now lives in Delhi.
Rashmi was leading a laid-back life till 2020 and then Covid 19 entered India. She had an opportunity to attend a webinar on Covid 19, in April ’20. Being herself a doctor’s wife she knew the gravity of the situation and immense danger to the society. She decided to become a voluntary counsellor. She was assisted and trained by other counsellors , a few of them are doctors in eminent hospitals.
Soon Rashmi started counselling and assisting Covid patients, guiding and helping them in home quarantine and directing them when to rush to the hospital. This way she assisted in treatment of more than 400 Covid patients, and her timely intervention could save their lives.
When plasma therapy started for Covid-19 patients from June ’20, as her phone number was already in circulation among Covid patients, many patients started contacting her for plasma. This was a new challenge but because she knew the patients who had recovered, she started cajoling recovered patients for plasma donation . Often she even paid the taxi fare to a few donors to timely reach the hospital to donate plasma. Some of the COVID victims who recovered were daily wage earners. To encourage them donate plasma and ensure their livelihoods were not affected, she even decided to pay them the daily wage that would have otherwise missed by not working on the day when they donated plasma. “I can afford it so I thought I must do this,” she says.
Till date Rashmi has assisted in 100 plasma donations. “ Nothing gives me more satisfaction than helping a patient to come out of stressful period of Covid infection and saving lives, ” she says. She feels that this is her individual social responsibility.
People feel that they cannot contribute to the welfare of the Covid victims for fear of getting infected themselves. Rashmi is a shining example of those who put others above self. For those who are willing to contribute to the cause of the poor COVID patients, she wants them to believe that,” if there is a will, there is a way.
If our society is alive and thriving, it is due to selfless services of these unsung and silent pillars of humanity.
