New Delhi: A well-marked low depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea intensified into deep depression today and is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm around today evening and gradually intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm by May 11, 2023 morning and very severe cyclonic storm around same evening.
The India Meteorological Department said the deep depression was near latitude 8.3°N and longitude 89.5°E, about 510 km southwest of Port Blair, 1480 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and 1360 km south-southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar) and was very likely to move north-northwestwards while intensifying further into a very severe cyclone.
Thereafter, the cyclone is likely to recurve gradually, moving north-northeastwards from May 12 morning. It is likely to weaken slightly from May 13 evening and cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar) around the forenoon of May 14, 2023, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 110-120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph.

- Andaman Sea: Rough to very rough over south Andaman Sea very likely to prevail till today evening. Very rough to high over the Andaman Sea from the 10th evening to May 11, 2023. Very rough to rough over the north Andaman Sea on May 12, 2023.
- Southeast Bay of Bengal: Rough to very rough very likely to prevail till today evening.. Very rough to high from 10th evening to May 11. High to very high on May 12.
- East-central Bay of Bengal: Rough to very rough very likely to prevail till today evening. High to very high from the 10th evening to May 11. Very High to phenomenal during May 12 and May 13.
- West-central Bay of Bengal: Rough to very rough very likely to prevail till today evening. Very rough to high from the 10th evening to May 11. High to Very High on May 12.
- Northeast Bay of Bengal: Rough to very rough on May 12. Phenomenal to very high during May 13 and 14.
Fishermen, ships, boats and trawlers have been advised not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal and the south Andaman Sea till May 11, central Bay of Bengal and the north Andaman Sea till May 14, morning, and into the northeast Bay of Bengal during May 12-14, 2023.
The IMD warned of rainfall at most places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places till May 11, and heavy rainfall at isolated places over the Andaman Islands on May 12.
Rainfall with heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely in Tripura and Mizoram. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur and south Assam will be on May 14, 2023.
