New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has stressed on the need to focus on more testing of those suspected of Covid-19 so that the infection rate in the National Capital Region could be reduced. On Thursday Delhi saw 2442 new active cases and 61 deaths due to Coronavirus and only Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu reported more active cases and deaths that than the national capital.
In a meeting with Chief Ministers of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in the presence of Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan, he called for a unified strategy for COVID19 in the National Capital Region(NCR) on Thursday. Shah said the All India Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi’s model telemedicine consultation model for Covid-19 patients could be replicated in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. He suggested UP and Haryana could join AIIMS-Telemedicine COVID consultation through which patients can get advice by expert doctors. The training for doctors in small hospitals in UP and Haryana too can be provided by AIIMS with the help of Tele-videography, he said.

The Home Minister said adoption of more testing via Rapid Antigen Test Kits will help in reducing infection transmission rate below 10 percent as suggested by World Health Organization. He added that nearly 90 percent of screening was possible through these kits. “These kits can be provided by Government of India to Uttar Pradesh and Haryana governments in numbers desired by them,” he told the chief ministers of these states. He further told all three CMs to focus on early hospitalisation of patients, so that the mortality rate could also be reduced.
