1,41,986 new cases reported in 24 hours across India
New Delhi: With new COVID-19 cases crossing over a lakh mark for the second day in succession and the daily positivity rate further increasing from yesterday’s 7.74% to 9.28% in the last 24 hours since then, Government has stepped up measures to meet the health emergency in the country. The national capital registered 20181 new cases and seven deaths till 6 pm today.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare figures showed 1,41,986 new cases in the last 24 hours till 9 am across the country today. Overall Omicron cases reached 3071 today, spreading across 27 states of the country.Maharasthra continues to lead the pack with 876 Omicron cases, followed by Delhi (513), Karnataka (333), Rajasthan (291), Kerala (284) and Gujarat (204).
The Northern Railway has run 858 Special freight trains carrying over 14,403 tons of Oxygen in cryogenic tanks and roll-on-roll-off road tankers through green corridor for supply to the hospitals and Covid care centers in five states – Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today urged everyone to maintain the momentum of vaccination and asked everyone to follow Covid appropriate protocol. He also lauded vaccination of 2 crore children in 15-18 age group.
With the administration of more than 90 lakh Doses (90,59,360) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 150.61 crore (150,61,92,903) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh today held a high-level online meeting with authorities in Jammu and Kashmir and advised setting up of a designated Dashboard for real time updates related to the ongoing third wave.
Dr. Singh observed that most of the positive cases in the third wave have remained asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic with flu like symptoms which invariably wane away in 4-5 days. However, he said, there was no room to be complacent because during the second wave also, there was a surge in the later weeks and, therefore, the next few weeks will determine the nature and course of this week’s wave of pandemic the country is going through.
