New Delhi: The President today appointed Sushil Chandra the senior-most Election Commissioner, as the 24th Chief Election Commissioner of India. He will assume the charge of office of the Chief Election Commissioner with effect from April 13, 2021.
Chandra replaces Sunil Arora, who demitted the Office of the Chief Election Commissioner today. A notification in this regard was issued by Legislative Department, Ministry of Law & Justice today.
Chandra had earlier also served as the chairperson of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
