Art When You Are Hurt stars prominent bloggers from Muscat
The 17-minute short film Art When You Are Hurt tells the tale of exploitation of artists during the times of Covid-19. Director of the film, Anirban Ray, explains: “This film has been inspired by personal experiences. It is sad when we witness the level of exploitation by the corporates on skilled creators.”
According to Ray, in today’s world sadly one’s worth, value, presence is determined by the magnitude of fakeness and lies he can extend upto. High changes of (momentary) success is when there is a high level of ‘pampered lies’. And thus the result is artificiality all around. “Our film aims to be critical on this artificiality that surround us,” he told globalbihari.com.

The protagonist of the film Shilpi KA Dalal, the Managing Director of I-Am-The-Bestest Events is all set to host an event on Art. In the process she needs two men to help her: Electrician Daniel Jack and audio-visual expert ST Elliot. Throughout the narrative, references of several artists including Van Gogh, Freda Kahlo, Charlie Chaplin, Oscar Wilde, Emily Dickinson and Marilyn Monroe are taken to lay subtly emphasis on how art and creation has been exploited and commercialised over decades.
Script writer Vinod Raghavan said, “This film is dedicated to all artists, dancers, film-makers, writers, bloggers, beauty-queens, make-up artists, editors, actors whose due is still due. There is a lack of empathy and understanding in the market for them. Through the film, which is a satire, we aim to spread consciousness of the hard work that goes on into any creation.”
The film stars prominent bloggers from Muscat including Piya Pawani, Sudha Mehra and Karthick P. The film was shot at the oldest hotel in Oman, Mutrah Hotel.
