Leh: A truck carrying 10 soldiers fell in a river killing a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and eight jawans of the Indian Army today, the Ministry of Defence said. The accident took place in Kiyari, about 150 km away from Leh, around 5 in the evening.
The truck was part of a convoy consisting of five vehicles.
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed deep grief over the loss of lives of Indian Army personnel in the mishap. He also wished the speedy recovery of those injured in the mishap.
In an X post, the Prime Minister said;
“Pained by the mishap near Leh in which we have lost personnel of the Indian Army. Their rich service to the nation will always be remembered. Condolences to the bereaved families. May those who are injured recover at the earliest: PM @narendramodi”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, too, expressed sorrow over the death of the soldiers in the unfortunate accident.
“Saddened by the loss of Indian Army personnel due to an accident near Leh in Ladakh. We will never forget their exemplary service to our nation. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. The injured personnel have been rushed to the Field Hospital. Praying for their speedy recovery,” he wrote on X.
