Kochi: Security has been tightened at and around Cochin Shipyard Limited after an anonymous email today threatened to blow up the first indigenous aircraft carrier of Indian Navy, INS Vikrant, which is now undergoing sea trials here.
Sources say that this has been the second email in the past 20 days that threatened to blow the aircraft carrier, and Ernakulam South Police Station has registered cases of cyber terrorism under Section 66 of IT Act and Section 384 of Indian Penal Code.

The shipyard, which has undertaken the construction and trials of “INS Vikrant” – the largest naval ship ever to be built in India – said it was cooperating with the investigation by the security agencies.
Reports suggest that there had been security threats earlier too and while in July 2021, the police had apprehended an Afghan national with an expired visa from the shipyard, two employees engaged in painting work were arrested for stealing electronic components in 2019.
