Patna: Bihar Government on Saturday started comprehensive screening of over 1.80 lakh migrant workers, who had come from outside after March 22.
Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar said that this decision had been taken for stemming spread of Coronavirus infection at the community level. He said that further investigation would be carried out in case of any symptoms.
Kumar said that people who had come to Bihar from Maharashtra, are being screened in the first phase. After these people, there will be screening of those who had come from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Delhi. Screening of people will be completed within six days. The District Magistrates have been instructed for completing the work.
Over 27,000 migrant labourers have been kept for 14 days’ quarantine even as 3,200 quarantine centres have been made near their villages. They will be kept in isolation ward if situation arises. Activities of migrant labourers are being monitored to contain Corona virus infection.
Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus patients has grown to 31 in Bihar so far with one more case reported from Gaya district.
Confirming one more person contracting infection from the dreaded virus, Gaya district magistrate Abhishek Singh said that the persson, who tested positive for Covid-19, is the husband of a a resident of Gurudwara Road, who was also found Corona positive. The woman had returned from Dubai. Along with the husband, all other family members of the woman had been admitted to the isolation ward of Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical Hospital in Gaya.DM said that swab samples of the woman’s all family members were sent to Rajendra Memorial Research Institute of Medical Science (ANMCH) in Patna as the husband tested positive for Covid-19 while reports of other family members were yet to be received.
In Gaya district, the number of Corona virus patients has grown to 5 including three women.
A person from Panjwar village in Raghunathpur block of Siwan district also tested positive in the report, received from Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science (IGIMS) in the state capital, taking the number of Corona virus patients in Siwan district to six. The youth had returned from Oman on March 21. It is said that more than 25 people had returned from foreign countries to Raghunathpur alone after March 18.
