Jaipur: In a ghory incident that has come to light today, at least five persons attacked and set on fire a 55-year-old temple priest in Bukna village of Karauli district on Wednesday. The priest, Babulal Vaishnav, died of burns at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital here but before his death the police could record his statement that led to the arrest of one Kailash Meena today. The search is on for four other accused.
Police said the attackers wanted to encroach on the 15-bigha land, belonging to the Radha Krishna Temple Trust.
The incident has taken a political turn with the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party accusing the State Congress government for the collapse of law and order in the state, while Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted: “Mr. Vaishnav’s murder is unfortunate and condemnable. There is no place for such an act in a civilised society. The main accused has been arrested and further action is in progress.” Gehlot also holds the Home portfolio.
The priest’s family has demanded payment of compensation and government job to a family member, and also action against the police officials.
