Patna: Bihar witnessed peaceful polling in the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections which saw 54.26 per cent voter’s turnout in the 71 constituencies that went for polls today. This was the first-ever major elections held in India and the the beginning of the the world’s largest elections being held amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Today’s poll will decide the fate of former Chief Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) chief Jitan Ram Manjhi as well as eight ministers of Nitish Kumar’s government. Manjhi is contesting from Imamganj seat in Gaya, which is Maoist infested.
