N. K. Jha’s Victory Marks Milestone for Indian Commerce Association’s North-East Zone
Bengaluru: For the first time in the Indian Commerce Association (ICA)’s 75-year history, a representative from its North-Eastern Zone has been elected to the Central Panel. Dr. (Prof.) N. K. Jha, a senior faculty member at Patna University, has been elected Vice President of the Indian Commerce Association at the national level. He will serve a three-year term.
The election was held during the 76th All India Commerce Conference, organised from December 19 to 21, 2025, at Garden City University in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Dr Jha represents the North-Eastern Zone of the association, which is the largest zone and comprises nearly half of India’s states.
Dr Jha has now won a national-level election of the association for the second consecutive time, surpassing his own previous achievement. He was earlier elected Joint Secretary during the 73rd All India Commerce Conference held in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He is the first individual in the history of the Indian Commerce Association to secure consecutive victories in national-level elections with such a large margin.
Out of a total of 713 votes, Dr Jha received 457 votes from across the country, reflecting the deep confidence reposed in him by academicians and researchers nationwide. Over the years, he has successfully served Patna University in several key academic and administrative positions, making significant contributions to academic excellence, institutional development, and quality education.
Expressing his gratitude after the victory, Dr Jha said, “The responsibility entrusted to me this time is far greater than before. I will make every possible effort to live up to this responsibility with sincerity, integrity, and dedication.”
Dr Jha’s election has sparked a wave of joy and pride across Bihar and beyond. He has received warm congratulations from scholars, educators, and academic institutions from all corners of the country.
Congratulating him, noted author Bīrbal Jha noted that the achievement was a matter of pride not only for Patna University but also for Bihar and the nation. He said Dr N. K. Jha’s scholarship, leadership, and academic commitment had earned him the position and expressed confidence that the Indian Commerce Association would progress further in education and research under his leadership.
Dr. (Prof.) N. K. Jha’s election is expected to serve as a source of inspiration for future generations of teachers, scholars, and researchers, encouraging them to engage more actively with academic institutions and professional bodies at the national level.
