New Delhi: Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia today announced the Rising North East Investor Summit 2025, revealing investment proposals worth over Rs. 1 lakh crore to establish the Northeast as a pivotal economic hub. The summit has secured commitments exceeding Rs. 1 lakh crore through roadshows in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, and New Delhi, Scindia stated. An Ambassadors’ Meet on April 15, 2025, at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, coordinated with the Ministry of External Affairs, drew representatives from over 75 countries, reflecting global interest. Scindia described the Northeast’s eight states as “Ashta Lakshmi,” stating, “The greatest potential for India in the future is our wonderful North Eastern regions.” He aligned the summit with Modi’s vision for a developed India, Viksit Bharat, by 2047, emphasising, “The Northeast is not waiting for the future; it is building it.” He noted that a decade of investments—10% of gross budgetary support, approximately Rs. 1 lakh crore annually, plus tax devolution and private sector contributions—has transformed the region from a peripheral area to an economic centre. Its cultural diversity, natural resources, and proximity to Southeast Asia make it “the most powerful gateway” to the region, bolstered by advancements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and submarine cables.

DoNER Secretary Chanchal Kumar presented investment opportunities spanning the eight states, highlighting infrastructure and skill development initiatives. The press meet included Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar, Press Information Bureau (PIB) Additional Director General (ADG) Manisha Verma, Statistical Advisor Dharmvir Jha, and senior DoNER officials. Scindia invited stakeholders to “join in witnessing the dawn of this new era” for the Northeast, projecting benefits for India and Southeast Asia.
Culminating from roadshows, bilateral chamber meets, and ambassador engagements, the summit leverages the Northeast’s geostrategic location, skilled workforce, and abundant resources to foster alliances and greenfield manufacturing projects. DoNER claimed its business-friendly ecosystem has attracted global and domestic investors. Aligned with Vision 2047, the government aims to make Northeast India’s most prosperous region, a global startup hub, a horticultural export leader, and a premier tourism destination. Seven road shows across India have promoted the region’s investment potential.
