New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu will administer the Oath of Office and Secrecy to the Prime Minister (PM) and other members of the Union Council of Ministers on June 9, 2024, at 07:15 pm at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President’s secretariat informed here today.
On the occasion, leaders from India’s neighbourhood and Indian Ocean region have been invited as distinguished guests. President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe; President of Maldives, Dr Mohamed Muizzu; Vice-President of Seychelles, Ahmed Afif; Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina; Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth; Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’; and Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, have accepted the invitation to attend, the Prime Minister’s Office disclosed. In addition to participating in the swearing-in ceremony, the leaders will attend a Banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, on the same evening.
The visit of the leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third consecutive term is in keeping with the highest priority accorded by India to its ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and ‘SAGAR’ vision.
After satisfying herself about the claim of the NDA to form the government today, the President had requested Narendra Modi to indicate the date and time of the swearing-in-ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan and also advise her about the names of other persons to be appointed as members of the Union Council of Ministers.
Earlier, a delegation of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda, called on the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan today at 2.30 pm and handed over a letter stating that Modi had been elected as Leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. Nadda also handed over letters of support from NDA constituent parties to the President.
The President, having satisfied herself based on the various letters of support received, that the BJP-led NDA alliance, which is also the largest pre-election alliance, is in a position to command majority support of the newly constituted 18th Lok Sabha and to form a stable government, appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India exercising powers vested in her under Article 75(1) of the Constitution of India.

Manjunath from the BJP; Nara Chandrababu Naidu from Telugu Desam Party (TDP); Nitish Kumar, Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) and Sanjay Jha from Janata Dal-United (JD-U); Eknath Shinde from Shiv Sena; HD Kumaraswamy from Janata Dal (Secular); Chirag Paswan from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas); Jitan Ram Manjhi from Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular); Pawan Kalyan from Janasena; Ajit Pawar from Nationalist Congress Party; Anupriya Patel from Apna Dal (Soneylal); Jayant Chaudhary from Rashtriya Lok Dal; Joyanta Basumatary from United People’s Party Liberal; Atul Bora from Asom Gana Parishad; Indra Hang Subba from Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM); Sudesh Mahto and Chandra Prakash Choudhary from All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU); and Ramdas Athawale from Republican Party of India (Athawale).
It may be mentioned that on June 6, 2024, the NDA unanimously passed a resolution in its group meeting at held at Prime Minister’s Residence 7 – Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi under the chairmanship of Modi. Prominent leaders of 16 parties of the NDA were present in this meeting where Defense Minister Rajnath Singh proposed the name of Modi for the post of Prime Minister, which was supported by TDP President Shri Chandrababu Naidu, Bihar Chief Minister and JD-U chief Nitish Kumar and the Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde along with leaders of all other NDA constituents.
Besides Modi, Rajnath Singh, Naidu, Nitish and Shinde, those who were present in this meeting were former Karnataka chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) chief HD Kumaraswamy, president of Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chirag Paswan, Hindustani Awam Morcha chief Jitan Ram Manjhi, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, Sunil Tatkare, Praful Patel, from Nationalist Congress Party, Apna Dal (Sone Lal) chief Anupriya Patel, Rashtriya Lok Dal president Jayant Chaudhary, Pramod Boro from United People’s Party Liberal, Atul Bora from Asom Gana Parishad, Indra Hang Subba from SKM, AJSU president Sudesh Mahato, and Rajeev Ranjan Singh and Sanjay Jha from JD-U.
