India has confirmed yet another medal after wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya reached the 57kg final in men’s wrestling
Tokyo: The 41-year-long wait for an Olympic medal in field hockey – a discipline of which India was once the undisputed king – ended today with the Men in blue won the Bronze medal by defeating Germany 5-4 at the Tokyo Olympics, here today. The last time when India had won an Olympic medal in Hockey was in the 1980 Moscow Olympics where it had won the Gold.

In today’s match for the Bronze medal at at the Oi Hockey Stadium, Simranjeet Singh scored two goals while Hardik Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Rupinder Pal Singh scored a goal each for India. In course of a pulsating match, where Germany took an early lead within two minutes of the match with Timur Oruz’s goal, India came back twice from behind to level the scores and thereafter, take the lead.

While India was placed in a pool that included among others, defending champions Argentina, and current world no.1 Australia, the team did well and lost only to Australia (1-7) until their march to the Semi Finals where it was beaten by Belgium (2-5).
Following the win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while congratulating the team, said that with this feat, Indian Hockey team had captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially the youth. In a tweet, he described today’s victory as “Historic! A day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian.”
