Kanpur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth approximately ₹47,600 crore here today. Addressing a gathering, he noted that the event, originally planned for April 24, 2025, was postponed due to terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. He paid tribute to Shubham Dwivedi, a Kanpur resident killed in the attacks. Modi discussed Operation Sindoor, stating it targeted terrorist hideouts in Pakistan, utilising indigenous weapons like the BrahMos missile. He outlined India’s anti-terrorism stance, emphasising decisive responses, disregard for nuclear threats, and no distinction between terrorists and their state sponsors.
The Prime Minister highlighted Kanpur’s role in defence manufacturing, noting the transformation of seven ordnance factories and the establishment of a Defence Corridor with Kanpur as a key node. He mentioned the ongoing production of AK-203 rifles in Amethi and BrahMos missiles in Uttar Pradesh. Modi inaugurated power projects, including the 660 MW Panki Power Plant, 660 MW Neyveli Power Plant, 1320 MW Jawaharpur Power Plant, 660 MW Obra-C Power Plant, and 660 MW Khurja Power Plant. He also inaugurated a 220 kV substation in Gautam Buddh Nagar and 132 kV substations in Greater Noida, worth over ₹320 crore.
Modi inaugurated the Chunniganj to Kanpur Central section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, valued at over ₹2,120 crore, featuring five new underground stations. He announced the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway, expected to reduce travel time to 40–45 minutes, and an elevated rail corridor worth ₹1,000 crore for the Farrukhabad-Anwarganj section. The ongoing upgrade of Kanpur Central Railway Station and over 150 stations under the Amrit Bharat Railway Station initiative were also noted. Additional projects included road-widening works, rail-over-bridges, and a 40 MLD Tertiary Treatment Plant in Kanpur, valued at over ₹290 crore, for water conservation.
The Prime Minister distributed certificates and cheques to beneficiaries of PM Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojna, National Livelihood Mission, and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. He also highlighted support for MSMEs, including increased loan guarantees up to ₹20 crore and credit card limits of ₹5 lakh. Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, Deputy Chief Ministers Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya and Shri Brajesh Pathak, and other dignitaries attended the event.

On May 29, 2025, in Alipurduar, West Bengal, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for a City Gas Distribution (CGD) project worth over ₹1,010 crore. The project aims to provide piped natural gas to over 2.5 lakh households and establish 19 CNG stations in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar. Modi stated that the initiative would ensure an affordable and clean fuel supply, benefiting households, commercial establishments, and vehicles while creating employment opportunities. He highlighted the expansion of the CGD network from 66 districts in 2014 to over 550 districts today, alongside the growth of LPG connections from 14 crore to over 31 crore. The Prime Minister also noted the Urja Ganga Project’s role in enhancing gas accessibility in eastern India. Union Minister Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Leader of Opposition Shri Suvendu Adhikari, and MP Shri Manoj Tigga were present at the event.
