Prime Minister inaugurates various projects under ‘Namami Gange’ yojana and ‘AMRUT’ yojana in Bihar
Cabinet approves establishment of new AIIMS in Darbhanga
New Delhi: After dedicating three key projects related to the petroleum sector in Bihar to the nation on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated various projects under ‘Namami Gange’ Yojana and ‘AMRUT’ Yojana in poll-bound Bihar.
The four schemes inaugurated today included sewerage treatment plants at Beur and Karam-Leechak in Patna city, as well as water-related projects in Siwan and Chhapra under the ‘AMRUT’ Yojana. Apart from this, foundation stones were also laid for water supply projects in Munger and Jamalpur and River Front Development Scheme under Namami Gange in Muzaffarpur.
The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister today also approved establishment of a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Darbhanga. This will be established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). The Cabinet also approved creation of one post of Director in the basic pay of Rs 2,25,000/- (fixed) plus NPA (however pay + NPA would not exceed Rs 2,37,500/-) for the AIIMS. The total cost will be Rs.1264 crore and is likely to be completed within a period of 48 months from the date of the approval of Government of India. The proposed institution shall have a hospital with capacity of 750 beds which will include Emergency / Trauma beds, ICU beds, AYUSH beds, Private beds and Specialty and Super Specialty beds. In addition, there will be a Medical College with 100 UG (MBBS) seats and 60 B.Sc (Nursing) seats; 15-20 Super Specialty Departments, AYUSH Block, Auditorium, Night Shelter, Guest House, Hostels and residential facilities. A Cabinet note stated that PG and DM/ M.Ch Super-specialty courses will also be started in due course.
As per data of current functional AIIMS, it is expected that each new AIIMS will cater to around 2000 OPD patients per day and around 1000 IPD patients per month.
The Prime Minister referred to the projects worth hundreds of crores of rupees which were inaugurated in the recent past in the state which would benefit the farmers of Bihar along with development of infrastructure.
The Prime Minister said for the past few years efforts are on to develop the state by ways of giving priority to the girls’ education, increasing the participation of disadvantaged in local bodies including Panchayati Raj.
The Prime Minister said in the last 4-5 years, lakhs of families have been provided access to drinking water in the urban areas of Bihar under the Mission AMRUT and State Government schemes. “In the coming years, Bihar will be among those states of the country, where every house will have piped water supply,” he said. He claimed that more than 57 lakh families in rural areas of Bihar had been provided water connections in the last few months due to the work of the migrant labour, who returned to Bihar from other states, under Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan. He said in urban areas also, the work for providing pure water to 12 lakh families in Bihar under AMRUT Yojana was fast progressing and out of this about 6 lakh families had already been provided connection.
He said under the AMRUT Mission, emphasis was being laid on the development of basic facilities in many cities of Bihar, and pointed out that in the state, over 4.5 lakh LED street lights had been installed in more than 100 municipal bodies.
He further said that keeping in mind the cleanliness of Ganga river, more than 50 projects worth more than Rs.6000 crores had been approved in the state. He said the government was making efforts to install many water treatment plants, in all the cities along the banks of the Ganges, to prevent the water of dirty drains from falling directly into the Ganges. He said the scheme of Beur and Karam-Lichchak inaugurated in Patna today, will benefit millions of people of this region. Along with this, the villages on the banks of Ganga are also being developed as ‘Ganga Gram’.
