Nadda, Nitish hold seat sharing talk, Chirag also discussed

Patna: Amid consistent attack by Lok Janshakti Party chief Chirag Paswan on chief minister and Janata Dal (United) president Nitish Kumar, Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda on Saturday threw his party’s weight behind Nitish by asserting that the NDA would contest the election under his leadership.

Both Nadda and Nitish, accompanied by senior leaders of their respective parties, held discussions on the seat sharing among NDA allies for the state polls even as Chirag’s outbursts against Nitish also figured during nearly hour long deliberations.
BJP, which maintained a stoic silence over the stand off between JD (U) and LJP, also gave rise to the speculation that Chirag was attacking Nitish allegedly at the behest of BJP. While on one hand the LJP has even threatened to field candidates against its nominees during the elections, on the other hand, it has, however, refrained from targeting the BJP.
Chirag in the meantime downplayed his attack on Nitish government. He said, “I hope JP Nadda will meet us very soon. I have been in touch with JP Nadda and Amit Shah. JDU is a bigger party so it is okay if JP Nadda meets them first.”
In a public event, Nadda repeatedly said that Nitish was the leader of Bihar NDA, notwithstanding Chirag’s proclivity to cast aspersions on his leadership.
But speaking on the Nitish government, Chirag said, “There are issues in Bihar which need to be considered. There are many issues related to development which will be prominent in the upcoming Bihar elections. The development that should have happened has not happened and people from my state go out in search of jobs and education that is something which I as a Bihari don’t like.”
JD (U) and LJP have been sparring over the last few months on several issues including the state government’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and its response to the recent floods.
Amid the growing rift with JDU ahead of the Bihar assembly polls, LJP patron Ram Vilas Paswan had said on Friday that he will stand firmly with whatever decision his son and LJP chief Chirag Paswan takes on the party lines.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and election-in-charge for Bihar polls Devendra Fadnavis and BJP general secretary Bhupendra Yadav, were also among those present at the meeting with Nitish at his Patna residence.
