Ingredients
(Serving for 3 to 4 persons)
Besan: 1 cup
Turmeric powder: ¼ tsp
Red chilli powder: ½ tsp
Ajwain: 1 tsp
Cumin seed: ½ tsp
Baking soda: a pinch ( optional)
Bread slices: 6
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
Step 1
To prepare the batter, in a large mixing bowl, combine besan, chilli powder, turmeric powder, ajwain, cumin, salt and baking soda.
Step 2
Gradually add water and whisk into a smooth, lump-free, thick batter that can coat the bread slices well.
Step 3
Slice each bread slice diagonally into two triangles.
Step 4
Heat a deep frying pan on medium flame. To test, drop a little batter in the oil. If it rises immediately, it’s done
Step 5
Dip each of the bread slices into the batter, coating it evenly on both sides. Gently drop into the oil and fry until golden and crispy on both sides.
Avoid overcrowding the pan for a perfect result.
Step 6
Remove the pakoda and place it on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.
Serve hot with chutney or ketchup along with a cup of hot tea.
