New Delhi: A Pakistani fishing vessel crew, situated roughly 350 nautical miles east of the Oman coast, received critical medical assistance from the Indian Navy’s mission deployed stealth frigate INS Trikand, which is currently engaged in the Central Arabian Sea. The crew was experiencing severe injuries, characterized by multiple fractures and considerable blood loss.
On the morning of April 4, 2025, INS Trikand intercepted a distress call from the Iranian dhow, Al Omeedi. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a crew member had suffered serious finger injuries while operating the engine and was in critical condition. He had been transferred to another dhow, FV Abdul Rehman Hanzia, which was heading towards Iran.
In response, INS Trikand promptly changed its course to offer medical aid to the injured crew member. The crew aboard FV Abdul Rehman Hanzia included 11 Pakistani individuals (9 Baloch and 2 Sindhi) and 5 Iranian personnel. The injured crew member, a Pakistani national of Baloch descent, had sustained multiple fractures and severe injuries to his hand, leading to significant blood loss.
The Medical Officer aboard INS Trikand, accompanied by a team of MARCOS (Marine Commandos) and the ship’s boarding team, boarded the fishing vessel to provide medical assistance. After administering local anesthesia, the ship’s medical team carried out suturing and splinting on the injured fingers. The surgical procedure, which lasted over three hours, was successfully completed, effectively controlling the bleeding and preventing the potential permanent loss of the fingers due to gangrene.
Furthermore, medical supplies, including antibiotics, were delivered to the fishing vessel to ensure the crew’s health until they arrived in Iran. The entire crew expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Navy for the prompt support in saving their crewmate’s life.
