Mumbai: Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 10, the fourth barge of the 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge project, was inducted at Naval Dockyards here today for Naval Armament Depot at Karanja.
The induction ceremony was presided over by Cmde MV Raj Krishna, CoY(Mbi).
The barge is built by MSME Shipyard, SECON Engineering Projects Private Limited, Visakhapatnam for the Indian Navy. The contract for building the 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge was signed between the Ministry of Defence and SECON Engineering Projects Private Limited, Visakhapatnam on February 19, 2021.
Induction of these barges would provide impetus to the operational commitments of the Indian Navy by facilitating transportation, embarkation and disembarkation of articles and ammunition to Indian Navy ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.
These barges are indigenously designed and built under relevant naval rules and regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS). The model testing of the barge during the design stage was undertaken at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam.
“These barges are proud flag bearers of the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Government of India (GoI),” the Ministry of Defence stated.
