New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in conjunction with the Indian Navy, today successfully conducted combat firing tests using a reduced explosive variant of the indigenously designed Multi-Influence Ground Mine (MIGM).
This sophisticated underwater naval mine has been developed by the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam, with contributions from other Defence Research and Development Organisation facilities, including the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory in Pune and the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory in Chandigarh.
The Multi-Influence Ground Mine is specifically engineered to bolster the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities against contemporary stealth vessels and submarines, with Bharat Dynamics Limited in Visakhapatnam and Apollo Microsystems Limited in Hyderabad serving as the production partners for this advanced system.
In recognition of the collaborative efforts of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, the Indian Navy, and the industry, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh remarked that this system will significantly enhance the undersea warfare capabilities of the Indian Navy. Furthermore, Dr. Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research & Development and Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, announced that following this validation trial, the system is now prepared for induction into the Indian Navy.
